About

Standing more than 267 feet tall with a trunk that measures 107.6 feet in circumference, the tree known as "General Grant" is one of the largest in the world. The giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) located in Grant Grove in California's Kings Canyon National Park was named in 1867 after Ulysses S. Grant, Union Army general and the 18th President of the United States.

It trails just a few feet behind another notable giant sequoia named for a Civil War general: General Sherman, which is located in Sequoia National Park.
